Homework Practices and Expectations

To be successful in your Sciences class you will have to develop study habits that fit your own personality and your living environment. There are several habits that have proven to be very successful all students.

They are:

1). Establish a routine. It have been show that all successful students have some type of established study routine.

-Characteristics of a successful routine are:

A. A quiet study setting- that includes a desk or table where you can lay out your materials. This area is used for all study related activities.

B. Timing or period of the day-using the same time of day to do your school work > after school, after dinner, before bed. Use that time frame as often as possible.

C. Materials: include favorite writing tools, clipboards, even snacks.

D. Have a parent or older sibling look over your homework.

2). Consistency: You must follow your homework routine daily. You cannot skip a day. Even if you do not have homework you should write sample science test questions, do practice math problems, or read your “pages” for Language Arts. Put in 30 minutes a night 4-5 nights a week.

Test Preparation:

When studying for a test, I suggest the following steps:

-For Math- do 2-3 practice problems for each Math concept. Try to pick problems that have an answer so you can check your work.

-For Science: go over your notes and try to write questions that your instructor might ask. Then practice answering your questions. Whatever you do, do not simply look at your notes and call that studying. You can only prepare for the tests by practicing answering the questions.

One other suggestion for your Science course is to review your entry tasks. They are examples of test questions.
