Weather Lecture Notes
Water Leaves the Air

Condensation- to occur= 1. cool the air- less room for WV molecules
2. solid surface to collect on

Dew Formation:

I. 3 ways air can be cooled: 1. cold surface (touch it)
2. mix with cool air
3. expand- cools with expansion

II. 2 Ways air is lifted and cooled.
1. movement over mountains
2. cold air pushes warm air up

III. Air contains many tiny solid particles: salt, dust, ash.

IV. Cloud Formation
1. Rising air cooled by expansion
2. WV cools and condenses to water droplets and form on solid
particles
3. Water particles coalesce and increase in size
4. Reflect sunlight>>>>>>> white color of colors.

V. Cloud Types- based on shapes and height
a. Shapes: 1. Stratus clouds
2. Cumulus clouds
3. Cirrus clouds

Clouds can be a combination of 2 shapes ie. stratus cumulus
