Rocks and Minerals Project
There are five topics that you can choose from to do your rocks and minerals project on.
Minerals (a specific one or a mineral group- ex. silicates)
Rock types: Igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic (choose one)
A specific type of rock: ex granite, basalt, or marble.
The Rock Cycle
Students will research a topic that interests them. I will provide you computer
lab time to do some of the research. You then will write a 1-2 page paper with
a bibliography on your topic.

Minimum requirements will vary depending on the topic chosen and are shown in this color.

Bibliography
Provide two samples of crystals
Grow your own crystal(s)
Poster or drawing(s) of crystalline shapes
website resources that you found that were helpful (me)
Minerals
- 1-2 pages typed (include info
on properties) + Bibliography
Provide two mineral samples
Chart of the physical properties and pictorial examples if possible
website resources that you found that were helpful (emailed to me)
Rock Types /or a specific rock
- 1-2 pages typed (include info
on properties) + Bibliography
Provide two rock samples
Extra rock samples
Chart or poster on the formation of that rock type
website resources that you found that were helpful (me)
Rock Cycle
- 2 pages typed + Bibliography
Chart that summarizes the complete rock cycle
