Course Overview:

This course is a laboratory science that studies life and the processes of life. Students will use a variety of learning methods and activities to investigate life here on the Earth. The primary content of the course is life science. However, I will attempt to integrate major concepts from the physical and earth/space sciences to prepare students for the WASL.

Students can expect to be doing extensive review assignments on the physical and earth/space sciences during their school vacation periods (Thanksgiving, Winter Break, and Spring Break)

Learning Activities:

Students will be involved in a variety of learning activities depending on the topic of study. These may include individual research and problem solving, laboratories, demonstrations, projects, study guides, Internet investigations, study guides, and focused reading activities.

Students are expected to keep a notebook for their Biology course. This notebook will serve as the primary resource for students preparation for Unit tests.

Grading:

Classroom assessments will carry the most points. Students will be given a set of learning standards prior to the unit and then will be assessed on how will they mastered the learning standards.

Students are encouraged to talk with the instructor weekly to monitor their own progress.

Absences from school for whatever reasons will interfere with a student’s learning. Students are responsible for making up what they missed during their absence.

Students who fall behind in their class work or cannot demonstrate mastery on the unit assessments will be expected to spend their lunch time, before/after school time working with the instructor. Failure is not an option.
