is the indian word for potato) added a grandstand and a judging
pavilion to improve the racetrack and rodeo grounds. The Fourth
of July celebration was called " Race Meet And Rodeo At Point
". The promoters promised five races over the two day event.
They also promised a " bronc-busting contest ".
This is about the family during the event. The sports facility was a special family affair. The official racetrack judge was Peter Wapato, and little Pete, his grandson, was the jocky. Margaret and Lucy Wapato, the daughters of Peter Wapato, were in charge of ticket sales and concessions. The family's favorite horse was " Jackson Sundown". John, Peter's son, took care of the horses. Peter Wapato, the chief, was to appear in his colorful headdress and a full regalia.
